As you have an Irish passport you do not need a visa, and residency is applied for at the Police Station in Puerto del Rosario or Gran Tarajal.

In order to apply for residencia you still need to prove you can support yourself both financially and health-wise.  You will also need to first register on the Padron.  You can do that at the Ayuntamiento in Caleta, for which you will need a copy of your escritura.

Currently the financial requirement is a minimum of 7.200,00€.  For health you must have health-insurance equivalent to the state health scheme, ie no restrictions and no excess, and with an insurance company that is recognised by the Spanish Government.

Sorry to jump in,  but does the €7200 need to have been in the Spanish bank for a certain amount of time before applying for residency? My partner has an Irish passport so would be looking for work when  we move over there next year. We'll open a Spanish bank account for him.  I have my NHS pension so have enough from that.

Firstly, it does not have to be in a Spanish bank, but must simply be the equivalent of 7.200€
When we obtained our residency we merely showed our latest bank statement (Spanish bank) and that was ok.   I have heard a very few people say that they were required to show it had been there fore 3 months, but have not seen anything legal-wise myself and, tbh, I can't remember whether they were in Fuerteventura or mainland. If you have just opened a bank account and therefore don't have any length of time to show, personally I would apply and see what happens, or, better still, ask them.  Things can vary slightly depending on who you see and even what sort of mood they're in!!  It's always wise to have more than the required amount.Or, if you're unsure, you could move over, and if you can get a job that will go towards your financial security, then you apply for residency within your 3 months.

That's the Convenio Especial, but in order to apply for that you must have been a resident for at least a year.
