Don't worry about Pet transport. We moved over here with our 2 dogs over 3 years ago and all went really well. As Grahamwhu wrote, you can talk to Woodside or any Pet Cargo handler. We used https://www.aiapets.com/ in the UK who sorted everything for us.
It depends on what Airport and which carrier you are using as not all carriers transport pets from the UK these days. We flew from Birmingham with TUI, and had our dogs travel in the hold on the same flight as we did, when we arrived we met them at the Cargo depot at the airport after we cleared customs and they were both fine.
As for the ex-pat community, as with all communities, there are a large number of great friendly ex-pats ready to help, as well as unfortunately some time-wasters (especially alcoholics and other addicts eager to get something for free), This is the same wherever you go but luckily you soon get warned by the community who to avoid.
There are many ex-pats who want a little quieter life and as such do not live in the main reports of Caleta or Corralejo, but mix a little more with the locals in Antigua, La Oliva, Caldereta, El Cotillo, La Lares and many other villages/towns.
Relocating here was the best thing we ever did, the pace of life is slower than in the UK, we find the cost of living cheaper, the locals are very friendly as are the ex-pats, and of course the weather.
