I am having problems with Movistar. I’m buying a property on Calle Espino and trying to arrange broadband in my bungalow before I arrive. I keep being out on hold to speak to someone in English and nobody comes back to me. I need 10mbps and it seems only Movistar can provide that at reasonable but still relatively expensive price. Are they only provider of higher speeds at affordable price?

Movistar have useless customer service...   I signed up with them last year as a result of the fluent English speaking lady in their shop in the Rotunda Centre in Puerto's sales pitch.

They quoted me two rates one with 'free TV' included for €63 with a 30 day contract, and one with internet only for €57 with a 12 month minimum contract. As I did not know what the service was like I opted for the one with free TV because of the 30 day contract. The did not mention once that the TV package was a 3 month special priced trial with the Spanish movie and sport premium packages included. in the 4th month a further €50+ was included as a second bill taken from my bank account. I only discovered this a few months down the line and reversed the additional payments that had been taken from my account. A few days later my internet was cut off and it, after numerous phone calls and visits back to the Puerto shop, it was put back on 5 days later (with no refund or credit paid for the loss of service!).

You do not ever get any bills sent from them and as you have an open direct debt with them they take money from your bank account with what it seems is amounts plucked out of the sky without any prior notification, and it is difficult to get back. If you request a single payment to be returned; with our Spanish bank account, it automatically cancels the direct debt. With no direct debt in place as I've previously said, they cut your service...

We now have an official complaint about them currently ongoing as they are still overcharging us for the agreed services provided and the still owe us over €100 in un-agreed payments taken from our bank account.

They've got us by the short and curlies as the are the only 'unlimited' ISP where we live. We are currently paying €69 for a wireless service from a mast on a mountain 3 miles away with only a little set top box as our prime receiver device. As you can imagine, certain times of the day the bandwith is hopeless.

Join Movistar at your peril!!!

Yes thanks. I already spoke with customers who say up to 15mbps is not reliable at peak times. And he charges connection fee which Movistar didn’t.
