I cant really think of any pitfalls really. Fuerteventura is a very safe place. As you are italian, getting residency is very easy. Just come and after 3 months or before if you wish you go to the police station, show that you have some funds (not big checks here) and either private medical insur...

...ance or if receiving  uk pension you can get An S1 form and join the spanish health system for free.

I have just bought a house and like the uk, you just let estate agents and solicitors deal with it.

I wouldnt know about shipping furniture etc from the UK. I assume it would be straight forward. I doubt ifanyone would want to go through the hassle of shipping beds and sofas etc.

You dont actually need a solicitor to by a house. I used a 'tax advisor' which was cheaper and they are fully qualified and knowledgable.

Hi I am just moving over next week on my own I lost my husband in February over there we had just brought our villa shipped our furniture over just as we were coming back he died of a heart attack I come back to the UK to think of what I really wanted to do I sit here now thinking if I don’t try it I’ll never know and I could have regrets so here I am going on my own next week I’m taking my dog over I’ve sold my house in the UK and I’m going for it it’s safe it’s sunny and the people are nice and the island is beautiful so go for it life is short and if you need any help I will help regarding showing you who I used to get my Residencia the sale of my house she’s absolutely fantastic and she is Spanish You need to consider where you really want to be as well I can show you some of the island think of the hospitals medical centres etc  I drive but also live by most Amenities bus stop shops town my number is 07703 270749

Good luck Jill x

Dear Jill so so sad to  know that your husband passed away just before you were both just about to live your dreams I'm so sorry.

In regards to myself I must say that the covid story has stopped me to move forward I'm still in a job that I don't like living in London that I don't enjoy it anymore I'm practically stuck I don't know what to do anymore.  I'm planning to visit corralejo next year maybe February or March and if you've moved there or nearby we can meet.

Lots of love

Manux

I too am seriously thinking about moving over within the next couple of years,  I have just taken early retirement from the NHS and don't want to spend the rest of my life in SE London. I have a NZ passport so can spend 90 days in the Schengen zone plus 90 days in Spain (Fuerte) but will apply for a NLV. I am going to be spending a month in Corralego at Christmas to see what it's like when I'm not in holiday mode. I will follow your journey with interest!

Try different parts of the island it’s completely different from the north to the south busy in the north quieter in the middle and laid-back and I’m not sure about the south

Thanks for your reply,  I've been to Moro Jable for 3 weeks and can now say 'been there,  done that!' I really like Caleta (been loads of times) but my partner prefers Corralejo so am giving it a try (Have been there before but for only a week at a time)

Hello is good to know that there are other people thinking of moving to Fuerta, it helps me to know that I'm not the only one who has thoughts of changing your life at a mature age. Bev early retirement is a good idea if you can afford it. I obviously don't know your situation but if you can why not.

Regarding myself I'm planning to visit Corralejo in Feb-March as I'm still working and I need to request A/L. I too live in SE London. Would be nice to meet if you like . Keep me update. Best wishes. Manu

I'm not thinking of moving until 2023 but am going over for scouting trips.

My advice.

Don´t forget that living here is not the same as being here on holiday, no matter how long. I suggest taking this into account when deciding where to live. For example, you will need a car if living in rural parts. I know of someone who could not cope with a rural setting after living there for over a year, then found Corralejo a bit too busy and eventually moved to Caleta.

Moving within any country is an upheaval and stressful, so take your time when choosing the area you wish to live to ensure it is the right one for you now and in the future.
