Hi All, we are moving to Fuerteventura within the next few months and I am really confused about the driving situation. According to the UK.Gov website we can exchange our UK Licence for a Spanish one within the first 6 months of becoming a resident, however, looking at this website a lessons / driving test is required (here's the link to the UK.GOV website........ https://www.gov.uk/guidance/driving-in-the-eu-uk-licence-holders-living-in-the-eu#:~:text=UK%20and%20Northern%20Ireland%20licence,a%20driving%20or%20theory%20test.

(Scroll down to Spain requirements) I am hoping someone can clarify please.

N.B. I am also going to write to my MP regarding this.

Hi Gabriel, there is no need to have lessons or doing a driving test anymore. You can exchange your licence within the first 6 months. You have to make an appointment at the traffic office and need to have your passport, residencia (TIE), empadronamiento and UK driving licence, photograph, DVLA certificate. The other thing you need to do is attend a medical test. This is pretty straightforward and includes blood pressure check, eye test and a reaction test. If you need help with the paperwork i.e. making appointments there are people on the island who can help with this i.e. gestors. Happy to help if you need further info. Christine

Thank you Christine, I had just found this out via the British consulate in Madrid. there is a document of mutual agreement between Spain and the UK dated 15th March re exchange of Licences.
