Hi Lindi, it depends on the age of car and where it was registered ie uk or Spain, I bought a Spanish registered car in the uk and drove it to Plymouth, ferry to Santander then drove to Cadiz and another ferry to Lanzarote then another ferry to Corralejo, because the car was Spanish registered it was an easier way to get it registered out here in Fuerteventura, first you must have an empadron and NIE or residencia then you have to make an appointment ( phone or online ) with DGT to register here then pay import tax via Gran Canaria customs (IGIC) then register with the police at traffico , this is how I did it , if the vehicle is uk registered I believe it’s harder to do but is possible, I’d recommend a lawyer to do it for you or a gestor who specialise in the process ( look on the forums in Fuerteventura) it’s a battle but can be done, but with brexit and Covid everything is done online and can take days if not weeks to get appointments, hence it is easier to use a lawyer or gestor , I’m not sure but you can drive a uk registered car for 6 months after brexit but don’t hold me to that it’s only what I’ve heard. Hope this helps. Ps the canaries have there own valuation book and depending on age , engine size and emissions, they charge 5%. 10% up 15% of value of vehicle (again don’t hold me to that ) if you check online you can find out precisely, good luck.
