Good Morning everyone,

I have just received my residency visa (dated from 21/10/21) and now in the process of applying for my TIE.  Does anybody know what the current situation is regarding UK driving licences? How long they are valid for etc.

Many thanks in advance

Mark👍

You can use your UK driving license for up to 6 months after the date of your TIE, so should take your Spanish driving test and obtain a Spanish license within that 6 months.

This is URGENT as you may only have 3 days left to put in an application.

You have 4 days to simply exchange your license for a Spanish one as the deadline is 31/10/2022.

Read this as the deadline for exchanging Driving Licenses was extended to 31st October (4 days away).

It is a two-step process. The first step is to make an application to the DGT before 31th October. It may be possible to download the form and taking it to your local office, but I suggest visiting. The DGT address is: Calle los Hormigas, 1, 35600 Puerto del Rosario, but remember government offices close at 2pm. You may want to book an appointment on the DGT’s website.

For this part of the process you do not need to have a TIE, but you will need a NIE.

As long as your application has been submitted before 31st October 2022. You will need a residency certificate/TIE to do final exchange, so if you are in the process of applying for residency you may want to choose a later date for your appointment.

Good luck.

@Cyberion

The date you are talking about was extended to 31st December 2021.

However, as the poster is only just applying for a TIE through a NL visa, they will not be able to exchange their driver's license and will have to take Spanish driving lessons and a test in order to obtain a Spanish driving license.

Only those who are covered by the WD Agreement AND registered their intent with DGT prior to 31st December 2020 are able to exchange.

Sorry. I misread this:

Thanks for the explanation.
