We did exactly the same as are looking at excat ours was bare, undeveloped rural land. We purchased a 1 Acre (4044 m2) of land in La Caldereta in 2007 as we wanted to build to our specification and live away from the tourist resorts. We used the subsequent 10 years to acumulate money for the build and sort out any legal problems and paperwork - the paperwork can take time but is well worth it.  In May 2018 we sold up completly in the UK and rented here whilst the build began (much better to be here as you can make last minute changes) which was completed in July of 2019 when we moved in. It took this long as we live at the top of a hill and as such had a lot of excavation work to do. If you plot is level is goes up really quickly once you have a license to build.

We have no direct water supply and have our water delivered to fill a 15,000 litre Tank, and no direct electricity as we use solar for EVERYTHING. It is a legal requirement for the water company to provide water but you have to pay for connection to the nearest junction point. This worked out more expensive hence the decision for a tank which, with one text message is filled the next working day for 100 Eurios and last us about 4 weeks - it would last far more if we didn´t have a pool. Our waste water is then managed by an operating station and reused to water the gardens. This way be get the very best value for our money. The operating station is emplied of solids once a year at a cost of 90 Euros.

We have been amazingly happy with our architect, Project manager/Builder and all the tradesmen. We made the decicion to local talent as opposed to ex-pats and have not been disapointed. EWhat they created is amazing and for the cost exceptional.

The local community is amazing and I have found a number of other Brits live in La Caldereta, all of whom act as one communiuty and are really helpsul. A special Should to Colin and Linda who are fantastic.
