We are closer than ever to moving to Fuerteventura now and would like to bring with us a camper van. Is it possible to store a van long term when we visit family in UK? We know the ferry is not cheap but we also have a dog to bring over. Any help appreciated.

if you wish to leave it in Fuerteventura for more than 6 months - you will have to import it and re-register it here - not a cheap process. If you need any help with this we did it using a great company in Caletta. If you need the details I can send them to you by private message. You can also get discounted ferries if you are living in FV - just go to your local town hall and ask for Empadroniamento (a kind of residency document). It also allows you to get cheaper flights within Spain and the islands.

Many thanks Beverley for taking time to respond. We think we need to bring over a left hand drive vehicle and then swap to Spanish plates within 6 months - does that sound right? We have found a place in Puerto for 35€ a month that will store a camper van all year which solves the problem of storage when we pop back to UK for short visits. Looking at September 2020 to come over with vehicle and dog. We will the book holiday lets whilst searching for long term rental/purchase. Do you know how long we will need before we can apply for the residency? Sorry for the extra questions we are trying to find the safest most affordable way to be in El Cotillo and it is a little confusing!!!

If you have a Facebook account, try CAB Spain. Lots of legal info on there

Also, my advice re residency is to get yourself a notary\competent Spanish speaker to help with your residency application, because it is a huge red tape procedure that is conducted all in Spanish. Ask around other English residents, they'll advice you where to go

We are meeting an English speaking solicitor tomorrow on Puerto so hoping to get some help with NIE from her. We recognise we need some help! Thanks again June. I have asked to join FB groups too.

Following on from June’s comment, if you are looking for help with paperwork, http://theboxxpro.com/ this guy Miguel is helping us, known him for 14 years and he runs a very slick business. Based in Caleta.
