Hi my name is Tom and I used to work on the Canary Islands but went back to UK in 2008. I'm looking to co.e back over but am looking for work. I worked as a chief entertainer in hotels and speak German and Spanish of course English as well. I'm very open to doing different types of work and have also worked as a chef in the UK. If you could help and point me in the right direction to help me come back that would be much appreciated.

I did reply to your other post, hopefully you will see that.

If you only have a British (or other third country) passport things have drastically changed since Brexit.  In order to work here you must either be a permanent resident (ie have been a resident for 5+ years and approved as permanent) or you must obtain a work visa, which will allow you to become a resident.  Work visas are almost impossible to obtain.

Hi Thank you for your reply. I lived on the Canary for about 12 years and had my Nie number etc. I'm guessing I will need to start everything again by getting a work visa etc. Do you know how I would go about this?

Many Thanks

Tom

Sadly, your previous 12 years makes no difference.

In order to obtain an employment visa your employer must first apply for a visa for you, so you must receive an offer employment first.  There is a lot of paperwork involved, including the fact that employers must first prove that they have been unable to fulfill the position locally (ie local residents or a national of an EU country).

Unfortunately, the paperwork is so involved that 99.9% of employers can not be bothered with it.  For instance, some work vacancy adverts that I have seen all state that the applicant must already be able to work legally.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but this is all due to Brexit and the fact that while the British Government were offered to retain freedom of movement by the EU, they declined.

Providing a person has permanent residencia they can leave Spain for 5 years.

As the OP state they left in 2008, they will have to apply from scratch and apply for a visa.
