Hi,

New here, first time visit to the Canary Islands, staying in Fuste and fallen in love with it.

Intended on retiring to the Murcia region in June 2019 but having a serious rethink now as this place suits me to the ground.

Looking for information in area and places to buy.

What’s the area like in June/July/August?

When is the ‘bad’ weather months?

Looking forward to making lots of friends 👍😁

Hi

We were going to exactly the same as you and buy property in the Murcia region. However we have been coming to the Canary Islands for years for the amazing winter climate which is far better than the rest of Spain. We have just purchased a 2 bed apartment in Caleta de Fuste for our retirement next year.Yes we could of bought something bigger on the mainland for our money but with that comes a winter. In our opinion you won’t find a better all year round climate anywhere than the canaries so we think comprising on the size of our property was well worth it. There were other factors that swayed our decision and we thought long and hard about it for a few years but are very happy with our choice.

Good luck in your search too👍🏽

I'm going to either buy or build a property in Fuerteventura, Calete de Fuste, or build a house in Tarajalejo.

What I'd like to find out is, why are the houses in Caleta so exspensive or is there a lot of negotiating to be done?

The other question is, what's the cost per m2 for building your own, without the plot.

Thank you so much for reading my post and I hope to recieve the answers to the above.

Thank you John

Hi all

Properties in Caleta are expensive is due to the fact it is a tourist resort with all the amenities that goes with it. We have been coming to the island for over 25 years and in 2018 moved permanently into a town house in Caleta.

To be honest it was lovely but we then decided to move out and build our own place in Caldereta. This very rural and not the choice for everyone. There are many options.. Buy an old property and renovate. Buy land with a derelict building and build your own, or as we decided to buy land and design our own having it built by Spanish builders.

We did all the build during 2018 and moved in end of 2019.

To give you an idea of the top range. In all we have paid about 400K Euros for land and build (including pool) but it is amazing. In fact we sold our family house in the UK and ended up with a house worth much, much more and to our own specs here. This is due to labour costs being low, all year working climate, and depending on your specification relatively low cost materials.

The choices are many so good luck. If you do build be aware of lots of paperwork and ensure you get a good bilingual project manager.

Happy to help further if needed.
