depends on age of vehicle and the size of engine,

there are many factors that can affect the cost .if you are a new resident, have owned the car for longer than a year etc..

It also depends on the value of the car and they (not you) decide the value. We imported our 5 year old Suzuki Gran Vitara which they valued at €7761 (it was worth more like €5k) last year and including everything it cost us around €2500 - but we also had to pay to have new lights fitted as it would  not pass its MOT otherwise - so maybe get that done in the UK before you come and buy some second hand ones as that was quite pricey here. We also had to remove the tow bar as that needs a separate licencing here which was  more expense.

We are however pleased that we did it as we have a car that we know and love and the journey out here was a once in a lifetime experience - we drove from Lake Como, Italy through France and Spain and spent 3 weeks on it.

Also we could bring lots of stuff with us - the car was packed to the hilt - we just parked it safely every night in a hotel car park and never had any issues.

The ferry journey was also OK - you read a lot of negative stuff about it online,it was long (26 hours) but absolutely fine.

If you want to know our route and where we stayed I can send it to you.

Hope that helps
