- Use all the estate agents, but don't believe everything they say (we had some blatantly lie to us)!
- Do your own research.
- Do not put down a deposit until you have the money available for the whole cost, no matter what you are told.
- Use an independent abogado (solicitor), not one that is linked to, or recommended by, the estate agent.
- You should allow approximately 10% of the purchase price for taxes and costs
As a non-resident you will have an annual tax to pay, as well as the usual costs of IBI (council tax), Basura (rubbish collection), electricity and water. If you are buying on a community you will have a community charge, make sure you check what that covers. If you have a British passport (or one of any other third country), remember that you can only spend 90 days in every 180 days.
If you wish to move here then the process starts with getting an appropriate visa in the UK (or your country of residence) at one of the Spanish Consulates. Unless you have the funds to invest in 500k worth of property, in which case you can apply for the golden visa in Spain
