DEPENDS ON YOUR PAPERWORK.

IF YOU WANT A NON RESIDENTIAL ACCOUNT ,THIS COST MORE BUT YOU CAN DO IT WITH YOUR PASSPORT AND ADDRESS IN ENGLAND.IF THEY ASK WHY YOU NEED IT SAY THAT YOU MAY BUY SOMETHING AND NEED TO SEND MONEY HERE.

IF YOU HAVE A NIE OR RESIDENCIA THEN YOU NEED THIS WITH COPY OF RENTAL AGREEMENT OR DEEDS ,PASSPORT AND EMPADRON.

SPME BANKS HAVE ASKED MY CLIENTS FOR LAST 3 TAX DECLARATIONS IN ENGLAND BUT THIS IS NOT THE NORM.

I agree. I had a non-resident account before moving here from the UK and then opened residents account. You should ALWAYS take your Passport with you, even if you have a NIE. This is because your NIE is not an official identification Document. When you transfer money to your account keep the transfers below 6,000 EURO (it used to be 10,000). This is because large deposits are automatically registered as suspicious due to potential money laundering and as such, it can take a lot longer to transfer and you may be asked further questions as to the source of the money being transferred.

Unlike the UK, banks in Spain, have bank charges for standard accounts. Some banks offer special accounts, for example, I use Sabadell and as I transfer more than 700 Euro per month and also use them as an insurance broker I don't pay bank charges which are about 18 Euros a quarter.

Also, look for banks that offer good online account management. Especially if they have good mobile apps. Some banks are better than others but it is a nightmare visiting in person here. Staff are really good, but the banks normally only open from 8:00 am until 2:00 pm and can get busy. If you don't speak Spanish, make sure your branch speaks English. EG: All staff at the Sabadell in Coralejjo and Calete cater for English speakers and so are very good.

Hope this extra on top of what Chunky Chica told you.
