The Island can be seen as being split in two (just like before the Spanish conquered it) and is based on the areas which were dominated first when German and UK Tourism started well over 40 years ago. The South of the Island (Jandia, Morro Jable etc.) is home to mostly Germans and as such the Cafes speak German and Spanish with of course a little English and also have German speciality Bars and shops. The North (Caleta, Costa Antigua and Corraleje etc.) is home to the UK ex-pats and as such English is mainly the second language with British shops and cafes.
If you want to make sure you are in a mainly English speaking community without the expensive house costs of Caleta, or even more expensive Corralejo, then Costa Antigua is certainly the best place to be. We have many friends there and have visited frequently. Certainly being within walking distance to Caleta and close to the Airport, the Capital, and many shops it is a good place to live. Another English speaking community is in Caleta but at the top of what is locally called 'Chipmunk Mountain'. This is above the Golf Courses and also not too expensive to buy or rent, but quite a walk down to the shops.
Further away, between the Airport and Corralejo lies Parque Holandes. This is a real mixed bag if you like living in a multinational community with English, Scottish, Germans, Swedes, French, and Italians (my apologies if I have missed anyone) where there are also bargains to be found. There are of course a few other smaller communities but then you are further ways from amenities.
Enjoy your search and we hope to welcome you someday to the lovely and friendly Fuerteventura.
