Hi Jim
The best thing to do is employ a qualified lawyer who can help you arrange everything and ensure everything is legally correct .
As with all things there is a cost to this but at least everything is correct.
If you wish i can provide some english speaking Spanish lawyers that could help you
Good luck with your move you could not choose a better place I have lived here for 20 years and love everyday
Best Wishes

Hi Jim
I am 66 and moved over here 2 years ago from England. I know many English speakers who have managed the transition without lawyers. It is true that it helps to have someone with you who speaks Spanish when you fill in forms and go to the relevant authorities, but that does not have to be an expensive lawyer but beware unscrupulous people who say they will do it for you and will then charge you 50 euros to attend a simple 5 min meeting.
My advice is to make sure YOU are well informed well in advance. There are many people you will meet at friends who speak Spanish and will not charge you. Lawyers are only required when you purchase property and I am sure than John Goldacre as an estate agent can help.
You can find a lot of info, in advance and in English via the CAB https://www.citizensadvice.org.es/
Or the Irish Government. https://www.dfa.ie/irish-embassy/spain/our-services/new-to-spain/
Or the Uk Governmnet. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/living-in-spain
Or here https://www.internations.org/go/moving-to-spain
Feel free to ask questions on this forum. There are a lot of very friendly people here who will help without asking for payment.
Good luck
Steve

Jim,
Just wondering how you got on and did you make any progress or did the Covid situation change everything in your planning?

Jim,
Thanks for replying and I hope all goes well for you. Can I ask you if you have private health insurance that covers you over there? I'd imagine that is an important consideration and for peace of mind. Keep us up to date on what you do please.
